The rule of thumb for the Pirastro Passione viola strings is: the thicker the string, the more powerful the sound and the greater the load exerted on the instrument via the bridge. Strong strings can withstand a heavy bow and are therefore particularly suitable for soloists.
The thinner the string, the brighter the resulting tone, which is not necessarily the same as the size and volume of the sound. Soft strings are particularly suitable for chamber music due to their easy response and even intonation.
